Day School: Outstanding Isle of Wight People Who Influenced the World

The first part of the course will look at influential Islanders who changed world history in some way. The second part will look at great achievers who lived part of their lives on the Island. There will also be a section on other famous names who were either from or visited the Island who can only be mentioned in passing. The presentation will be illustrated with a Powerpoint presentation to show relevant portraits and images.

Course aim

The aim is to give participants a broad knowledge of the significant achievement of certain Islanders and people who came to live on the Island where they have had an international impact.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand broadly the influence and impact of Islanders from the past with a worldwide impact and the main importance of famous visitors to the Island.
  • Appreciate the considerable number of notable individuals who are associated with the Isle of Wight.
  • Have greater knowledge of the local history of the Island and of various aspects of global history and technology.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • Nothing else is needed
