Art Workshops 3 - Mixed Media

In this course we will experiment and enjoy the many different techniques offered by Mixed Media, using all the things that we have covered in previous classes ( though anyone can join in, no previous experience is necessary ). In visual art this refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed. Mixed media" tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media—for example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage can be called a "mixed media" .

Course aim

Mixed Media this course will cover diverse artistic techniques and the use of various materials: work on paper and canvas using combination of paint, ink, etc.. And collage.

Who is the course for?

- No skills or experience needed - This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

What topics will this course cover

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning - It is enormously satisfying when students develop their own work outside of class, and many do but I understand that not everyone has time there are other commitments.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

How will I know I'm making progress?

- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor - You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning - You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions - There will be weekly open discussion with the tutor, and personal monitoring of progress throughout the course. We learn by experiment, and group critiques (crits) allow everyone to explore results and provide critical feedback.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you - Additional materials of all different sorts will be needed ( paper, newspaper cuttings, old books for scraps cloth anything that is to be incorporated in the art works).

Reading and information sources

- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What could the course lead to?

- Progress to another WEA course - Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member - Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
