Day School: Modernist and Propaganda Posters of the Inter-War Period

Ref: C3741207

This course will consider how Art Deco and Modernist poster design developed in the inter-war period. We will explore the design aesthetic of the Bauhaus years, the Constructivist works of Russian artists such as Aleksandr Rodchenko, and the Art Deco age in France, personified by the poster designs of A.M Cassandre. The role of the war-time propaganda posters will also be investigated with a study of WW1 and WW2 propaganda posters. Works shown will be placed in historical and social contexts giving students the opportunity to participate in their own critical analysis of poster images.
