Day School: Great Modern Architects

Ref: C3741153

The course will investigate the life and work of key architects of the modern era, picking out representative buildings to display their achievements. The work of Frank Lloyd Wright and of Charles Rennie Mackintosh will be set against the influential work of Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier. Frank Gehry and Norman Foster’s approaches to design and materials will be compared. Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano established individual practices after initial co-operation – we will examine how their international careers developed . Finally we will look at the distinctive styles which have enabled Santiago Calatrava, and more recently Zaha Hadid, to develop a worldwide architectural presence.
