This day school will talk about the Art Nouveau movement that swept through Europe and the USA from the late 1880s to World War One, and how the British Arts and Crafts Movement was a key influence in this period.

Course aim

To provide a brief introduction and overview of the Art Nouveau movement, by looking at the artists and architects that made this iconic period of art.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To explain where and how Art Nouveau started
  • To describe two of the five names Art Nouveau was called in other countries
  • To name two influential Art Nouveau artists

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
