The course is an interactive course where learners will further develop their language skills through participating in classroom discussions. Potential topics for discussion may include My Neighbourhood, Be Healthy, Everyday Conversations etc. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in class and work with the group in a supportive environment.

Course aim

The course will enable learners to practise and improve the language skills they need in their everyday life, in the home, with their children as well as while interacting with other people in the community.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Participate in classroom discussions, expressing personal opinions in a clear and concise manner, using appropriate grammar structures.
  • Ask questions that will help to find information from local services on a variety of topics
  • Understand how to get help in various situations
  • Be more confident when talking to people in your community as well as teachers, doctors, dentists etc.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
