In a supportive group atmosphere , you will explore techniques and strategies for increasing self confidence , boosting self esteem , communicating with confidence and handling challenging situations. We will explore how we currently deal with everyday situations , identify existing and new skills to increase self belief.

Course aim

Learn and develop techniques and strategies to raise individual learner confidence , self esteem and self belief.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise 3 behaviour traits in yourself
  • Identify 2 things you can do to improve self belief
  • Develop and adopt 3 strategies to aid in improving personal self confidence
  • Explain the difference between assertive, aggressive and passive behaviour
  • Contribute to a poster / leaflet outlining useful confidence boosting tips for others to refer to.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • You will receive written feedback from the Tutor on your Student Record , and any submitted work , about your progress and achievement. Peer feedback will be encouraged

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Pen, paper and a folder for your work and hand outs would be useful .

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • No prior reading is required, learners are encouraged to share resources with the group they have found useful.

  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Skills and knowledge gained can be used on a daily basis in maintaining a healthier lifestyle.
