An ICT course designed to build confidence working with Microsoft Office Applications enabling students to work independently and within a group. Students will be able to work at their own pace with exercises that are designed to raise awareness of environmental, personal & health issues.

Course aim

To promote Social Purpose issues whilst using the computer. To learn new ICT skills and build on existing knowledge using Microsoft Office. To provide the student with transferable ICT skills. To provide a supportive & enjoyable atmosphere.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • A course designed for both beginners and those that want to update or build on existing knowledge. No prior experience needed.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create and reproduce documents combining text, graphics and art work
  • Enter & edit data with accuracy
  • Use formatting tools to construct documents layouts
  • Increase awareness of social issues through text content of practical exercises
  • Perform print options and organise in a portfolio as evidence of progression and learning

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Students completing this course will gain confidence working within a group as well as learning new skills using the computer. Social purpose issues will be developed while completing practical exercises.
