Stress comes from a variety of sources, including those applicable to specific situations or social groups. It may relate to issues affecting family, employment or unemployment, health, finance, housing & homelessness, entitlements & benefits, refugees & asylum seekers etc. This course will seek to promote ideas to improve mood & enjoyment of activities, or to seek appropriate information, advice or guidance which have the effect of relieving stressful situations.

This course is targeted at refugees living within the Bridlington/East Riding area.

Course aim

To introduce activities, ideas & strategies for stress management in the context of the needs & issues relating to a closed group.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

  • Closed group facilitated by the Refugee Council.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Participate in activities designed to have a positive effect on health & wellbeing.
  • Identify activities that may relieve stress.
  • Participate in group discussion & Q&A about a variety of coping strategies to overcome stress & anxiety in everyday situations.
  • Consider ways to manage & escape stress & anxiety.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
