An introductory course for beginners comprising exercise, inspirational games and text interpretation designed to help release the thespian inside you. No previous experience is necessary and you will be able to perform in a comfortable and safe environment.

Course aim

To introduce learners to the disciplines involved in acting and to give them the opportunity to practise drama skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform exercises required as warm-up procedure and development of voice projection.
  • Perform physical exercises required as warm-up procedure
  • Identify trust in both yourself and others to perform tasks by way of trust exercises.
  • Demonstrate improvisational skills developed through improvisational exercises.
  • Translate a piece of written Drama into performance.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Bring an open mind and wear soft/comfortable shoes and loose clothing.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Learners may wish to join amateur dramatic groups or develop their storytelling skills in the community.
