Italian Conversation Skills (Short course for more experienced Italian speakers)

This is a short course aimed at people who have an intermediate/advanced understanding of the Italian Language but keen to develop it further. The course will focus on oral, listening and speaking, so that the student will be able to communicate effectively. These 5 sessions will cover different topics designed to broaden the learner's understanding of Italian society, culture and lifestyle. At the end of the course students will be ready to attend a proper intermediate or advanced course.

Course aim

This course will enable you to develop your language skills and will equip you with the confidence and the appropriate knowledge to understand and to communicate in Italian

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for experienced Italian speakers (intermediate/advanced)

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • communicate effectively in Italian, talking about the past using different tenses depending on the sentence
  • communicate effectively in Italian, talking about holidays using different expressions and verbs
  • communicate effectively in Italian, expressing your preferences
  • communicate effectively in Italian, expressing your own point of view
  • communicate effectively in Italian, using some idioms properly

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • lease bring a notebook and a pen. Handout will be provided by tutor

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • Recap on present tense, future tense, passato prossimo and imperfetto tense of regular verbs
