This is a general creative writing course aimed at students of all ages and experience in terms of writing. So whether you have been writing for years or are a complete beginner, there is something for everyone.

Course aim

This course will use a variety of poetic inspirations, such as art, music and objects from which to write. We will explore a variety of form within creative writing such as flash fiction, poetry, autobiography, writing for children and non fiction.

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • You will write in a variety of forms; poetry, flash fiction, letter, story
  • You will write for a variety of audiences
  • You will write from different inspirations; art, photography, music, objects
  • You will be supported to plan your work
  • You will be supported to edit your work

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Pen and notebook

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

You can enrol online if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits

  • have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2017
