Content will be flexible covering: Form Expression, Characterisation, Plot, etc. depending on the needs of each individual learner. Learners will share their work with the group, and the Tutor will provide examples of published writing to support the work being done, when necessary.

Course aim

To encourage learners to experiment with their writing and to help them to gain confidence through reading their work aloud.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a level 2 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have the confidence and ability to write in my chosen format
  • Understand the genre in which I am writing
  • Be aware of the need to consider both audience and purpose in my writing
  • Use any literary techniques which may be required to enhance my writing
  • Gain confidence in reading my work aloud

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
