The Women Impressionists

Ref: C3672255

Women were starting to gain access to formal arts training at the end of the 19th century and this led to a blossoming of art by women artists in the Impressionist movement. This day school will present an overview of women artists working in the Impressionist movement ; their subject matter, painting style and critical success. Through looking at images and discussion we will build a picture of the scope of work by women artists in Europe and America in this period. We will also look the work of "outsider" women artists who are not well represented in the art history books such as Suzanne Valadon and Seraphine de Senlis.
