This term we will cover getting and giving directions, finding your way around, places to go, shops, shopping and money. We will continue to develop numbers skills, and grammar points will be introduced as needed. The emphasis is on developing conversational skills. Although this is term 2, we welcome new joiners. If in doubt, please speak to the tutor.

Course aim

To develop the students' ability to converse in and understand simple Italian as a visitor to Italy.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Although this is term 2, it may be possible to accommodate complete beginners, but you will need to speak to the tutor. Definitely suitable for returners.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • accept and give directions
  • ask where places are and find your way around
  • go shopping for food and other items
  • understand money and increase your skills with numbers generally
  • have learned a number of grammar points as they arise in the course of learning

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • I offer students the opportunity of having work marked as they go along if they so wish. Completion of homework will help me to assess progress and feed back, either in a class situation or individually where appropriate.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
