French Improvers

Ref: C3672235

Using the BBC publication, French Experience 2, students will develop their knowledge of French while exploring the cultures and environments of various French-speaking countries throughout the world, including, of course, France itself. The course uses video and audio, and aims to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking, with the emphasis on improving listening skills and the ability to converse. We also develop numbers skills as a matter of course. The course is aimed at level 2 to lower intermediate, and returners to the language are very welcome to join us.

Course aim

To improve the student's ability to converse in and understand simple French when visiting France or French speaking countries.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Talk about your origin, and where you have lived, travelled to and from, worked or studied
  • use language in connection with housing, eg types of housing, interiors, furnishings, buying, selling and renting
  • understand the culture and history of some French-speaking countries
  • understand various grammar points, revised or learnt, as appropriate to the materials and level of study
  • Have further developed their use of numbers

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • I offer students the opportunity of having work marked as they go along if they so wish. Completion of homework will help me to assess progress and feed back, either in a class situation or individually where appropriate.

What else do I need to know?

  • The course book is French Experience 2. Students can obtain this with the accompanying CDs, although this is not necessary for the course.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • This course is expected to run to 3 terms during the year, and possibly to continue as a Level 2/Improvers' group beyond that point.
