Communicate with Confidence out in the Community

This course is aimed at individuals who wish to build their confidence when needing to go out and communicate with others in the community. It will combine classroom activities as well as establishing strategies for 'getting out and about' activities within the community. It aims to provide individuals with the confidence to share ideas and experiences in order to prepare for visits out into the local community.

Alternate weeks will be held out in the community, which will be agreed with the Tutor and Students.

Course aim

This course is aimed at individuals who wish to build their confidence when going out and to communicate with others in the community. It combines classroom activities as well as 'getting out and about' activities.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To identify areas where you wish to build/improve your confidence
  • To develop strategies in order to be able to go out in the community
  • To participate in confidence building activities both in the classroom and out in the community
  • To be able to put into practice some of the strategies you have applied outside the course

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • On the dates we are going 'out and about', please come in suitable footwear and bring a coat/jacket.
