This course is designed for beginners and intermediate learners. The course will enable learners to be able to create a crochet sample.Crochet varies samples will be introduced to give ideas and learners will be encouraged to apply their personal creative skills to the class. Beginners will be shown and taught how to start crochet from scratch. Intermediate learners will be able to develop their crochet skills and learn further stitching patterns. Samples will be produced by all learners and taken home to impress family and friends. The course will also provide an excellent opportunity to meet people from local community with similar interests.

Course aim

To introduce crochet skills and to enhance further for those who already have the basic knowledge also to guide and instruct the learners according to their ability within the class.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Follow the instructions clearly.
  • Develop the understanding of crochet skill and techniques.
  • Understand the process of producing a sample/project.
  • Complete a project neatly.
  • Develop self confidence.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Produced work will be checked and the area of improvement will be identified.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
