This course is suitable for anyone who has a some confidence in using sewing machine and wants to learn how to stitch garments. Course will cover numeral topics such as:how to stitch under garments, dots, how to make designed neck line etc... Some examples and ideas will be given but learners will produce projects of their own choice. Instructions will be given verbally and learners will be encouraged to make notes and diagrams.All of the work will be practical which will checked in every session. Course will be taught in safe and friendly environment and learners will have the opportunity to make friends and develop their communication skills.

Course aim

To develop the understanding of stitching techniques and processes which requires to produce garments. To provide help and guidance in order to perfect learners' skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use sewing machine safely and confidently.
  • Draft my measurement on paper independently.
  • Draft and design fabric perfectly.
  • Use different techniques and processes in stitching garment.
  • Complete a project successfully.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Learners will need to bring fabric of their own choice to make outfits.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
