Yoga and Relaxation

The course will promote total well-being through use of stretches, postures, mindfulness, relaxation and guided discussion in a non-competitive, supportive environment. The course is particularly aimed at those coping with stress and on-going mental health challenges. There will be sharing of positive ideas and how techniques can help in daily life.

Course aim

The course aims to improve physical and mental well-being through yoga practices, relaxation and mindfulness.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practise a selection of asanas related to improving digestion and lowering stress.
  • Discuss ideas about improving digestion and food choices.
  • Practise three part breathing and full yogic breath with the help of hand mudras.
  • Discuss the effects of mindfulness in daily life and making positive lifestyle choices.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Practice, demonstrations, discussion, visulalisation

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Wear comfortable clothing, you are also welcome to bring your own yoga mat and props if you prefer to.

You can enrol online if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits

  • have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2017
