A study of 2 major countries, allies in war but whose relationship varied in times of peace.

Course aim

To examine the relationship between UK and USA both in time of World War and intervening period of peace scarred by the world economic depression of the 1930s.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Appreciate why USA entered World War I in Europe
  • Contrast US involvement in the peace conference and subsequent American isolationism
  • Contrast US wealth / prosperity with UK economic experiences - 1920
  • Appreciate similarities and differences between US economy and world depression and the growing Americanisation in the UK
  • Appreciate UKs grave financial position and need for US support during World War II

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
