Focusing on Fashion's world cities, London, Paris, New York, Milan, Tokyo, the course will invite investigation into post WW2 Fashion history, consumerism, Modernity, film, fandom, photography, history and heritage.

Course aim

Links will be made to the heritage and selling of Fashion through the media of film, magazines, newspapers and art galleries.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is suitable for people interested in the Media and how it relates to the world of Fashion.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Appreciate how the Fashion industry relies on the Media. Grasp the ways in which popular music both reflected upon and provided commentary on this social upheaval.
  • Know who the key Fashion designers were and what shaped their influences on the industry.
  • Understand the impact film makers made on the Post War Fashion industry.
  • Grasp the ways in which Fashion promotion changes to adapt to technology.
  • Be able to challenge ways to how Fashion is promoted.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
