Yoga improves your strength and flexibility. Movement is coordinated with the breath helping to calm the mind. Classes always end with a Deep Relaxation. This course will focus on Sectional breathing and Sound, Om and Inner Silence, our physical focus will be on The Reclining leg stretches, Dog Pose and Pigeon Pose.

Course aim

This course will focus on experiencing 'Inner Calm' through breath and sound, Students will learn the Reclining Leg Stretch Series and our asana focus will be the Downward Facing Dog and the Pigeon Pose.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice Sectional Breathing with Sound and the Full Yogic Breath with Om.
  • Experience Inner Silence through meditation on Om.
  • Practice the Reclining Leg Stretch Series and experience and understand the benefits of this practice.
  • Practice variations of the Downward Dog pose, making this practice work for you - exploring hamstring stretching, wider stance, wall and block supports OR a modification of this pose- eg various Supported Forward bends.
  • Correctly warm up for and practice the Pigeon Pose Or a modification of this pose eg The Sphinx and a reclining Hip Opener.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • You must bring your own yoga mat, please bring a yoga belt and block if you have one.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
