Course aim

To enable students to communicate more confidently with native German speakers whilst visiting on holiday. To converse in German & increase vocabulary & grammar knowledge. Gain an insight into the German culture. Have fun learning German.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • 2 years previous knowledge of German or have lived & worked in Germany.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Socialize with German native speakers & understand German etiquette.
  • Book accommodation online or by phone. Cope as a guest in a hotel such as requesting information about meal times, other items & booking a taxi.
  • Request & respond to information when shopping. Find your way round a German department store
  • Gain an insight into German customs & celebrations.Write appropriate messages on cards such as wedding, birthday, get well card.
  • Identify German food & drink. Order food & drink in a restaurant.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • Internet Authentic German resources e.g menus,leaflets Language games

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • Oral & written feedback
