Spanish Art from Velazquez to Goya

Ref: C3671377

This course explores the work of some of the 'greats' of Spanish art- El Greco, Velasquez and Goya- but also many of the lesser known artists of the time such as Maino, Ribalta Cano and Melendez. These artists cover the enormously interesting period from the reign of Phillip II, through the Golden Age of Spanish Art and the Baroque; the background therefore goes from the height of Spain's power, through the upheavals of the Reformation and Counter Reformation and up to the ruinous Napoleonic Wars.It sets their work in its social, political and economic context and investigates the connections between this context, the artists and their work. The course is very much run on 'workshop' lines and is very interactive.
