Introduction to Photography / Making The Most of Your Camera. Look at the world like a photographic artist, looking at, light, composition and different ways to use a film or digital camera creatively. This is a Level 1 Photography course for beginners to learn how to take professional looking photographs and get full control of your camera. Be creative and start a photographic art project of your own. Choosing Your Best Photographs and Prepare For Exhibition. See your own work as a curator would and learn how to present your work to the public or a gallery.

Course aim

Learn to take photographs and get full control of your camera. Be creative and start a photographic art project of your own.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Look at light like a photographer
  • Compose images and choose your best photographs
  • Understand different ways to use a camera creatively
  • Take professional looking photographs
  • Understand how to start a photographic art project.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Please bring some sort of camera if you have one, new or old, film or digital. There will also be some provided.
