The course is designed to let a student develop their computer skills in a subject of their own choice whether it is in Word, Excel, Access, Desktop Publishing or PowerPoint at a level that best suits their own needs, so a complete beginner can join to anyone just wanting to brush up their skills. Students can also learn more on using the internet to do shopping online, find that perfect holiday or even find the cheapest hotels etc. to learning how to use an email package and finally need help to master looking for employment then you can get help with this too. The course also covers learning more about the new Windows 10 operating system where there is plenty of guidance and support available to get you on your learning journey. So come and join this friendly group.

Course aim

To give beginners the skills to use a computer. Existing students will be given the opportunity to further their skills using a variety of Microsoft applications. The course is flexible and can be adapted to suit students' individual needs.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Remove a memory flash disk correctly and safely
  • Use the Task View option in Windows
  • Update the Virus Checker
  • Show and Clear Notifications
  • Change Shutdown options

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
