The Victorians: Face to Face Part 1

Ref: C3671199

The Victorians were preoccupied with the society in which they lived, and were fascinated by the possibility of identifying innate character, racial and social traits. The paintings, illustrations, cartoons and photographs disseminated widely a typology which was accepted by most as scientifically proven. As with the great Victorian novelists, Dickens, the Brontes, Thackeray, Trollope and Eliott; the visual arts, along with social investigation, reflected the complexity, the conformity and the confusion of this bustling and still evolving society.
