Improve your previous knowledge of the Spanish language; build up your confidence practicing your speaking skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Revise and expand your vocabulary and useful expressions when speaking about places you have visited, things you have/ have not done ; learn/develop your understanding of how to compare what places are like and what they were like, having a quick look at some of the changes in the Spanish speaking world. Enjoy learning and talking about what you are interested in whilst building up your vocabulary and developing your understanding of the Spanish grammar.

Course aim

To expand vocabulary and improve understanding of the Spanish language when talking about places and culture. To consolidate the present and past tense, and improve confidence using the language.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe some places of interest in the Spanish speaking world; say where they are, what they are like, and life in these places.
  • Describe some places of interest in the Spanish speaking world; say where they are, what they were like, and what life was in these places.
  • Understand and use more accurately the present and past tense when comparing what places are like and the way they were.
  • Understand and use a wider vocabulary on different leisure activities when talking about different experiences in Spanish speaking countries.
  • Recognise some important events in the history of the Spanish speaking world.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • You need to bring :a notebook and a pen. The tutor will give you information on some books, dictionaries and other resources that can support your learning, and suggest how to use any resources you may already have
