Painting and Drawing Workshop Part 1

This course is partnering with the Arts and Minds network to work towards an exhibition in a central Leeds venue during the Love Arts Festival. Learners will be able to create a series of paintings and drawings based on the theme of journeys and referencing the Artist Jospeh Beuys. We will be using acrylic paint on canvas and pencil on paper. We will also visit the Leeds City Art Gallery to see the Jospeh Beuys exhibition and the gallery's reopening.

Course aim

The aims of the course are to create and exhibit a series of art works, visit an art gallery and create art referencing the theme of journeys.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Gain further knowledge in art materials (inc. acrylic paint on canvas and pencil/pastel on paper).
  • Visit an art gallery and discussed the artists work.
  • Shown my art work in a group exhibition.
  • Understand the wider social issues surrounding contemporary art.
  • Engage in discussions about my own work and others in the group.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You will work in sketch books to document you progress.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
