Dance for Health Fitness and Stamina - Mixed Abilities

The course uses exercise to music to help improve and maintain general health and well-being both physically and mentally - improving fitness,memory and confidence. This term we will be focusing on stamina. Guidance is also given about using the routines to exercise outside of the learning environment. All abilities will be catered for.

Additional information about this course

The group size is limited as some students have learning disabilities and some students are wheel chair users. We have to limit the number of wheelchair users for health and safety reasons. If you are a wheel chair user and wish to attend the course please contact the organiser 01977 703196.

Course aim

To use dance as a form of exercise to help improve and maintain ones general health and well-being. To keep ones mind active helping to improve memory and confidence.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform to music simple routines which directly benefit ones health and well-being including confidence and memory.
  • Recognise an improvement to ones physical stamina through performing routines learnt numerous times
  • Recognise an improvement to ones mental stamina by performing set routines correctly to a full track of music
  • Recognise and record on ILP one benefit to health and well-being which has improved during the course

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • loose layered,comfortable clothing and good supportive footwear
