Enjoy learning a beautiful language with a native Italian tutor in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Mainly focused on developing conversational skills, with this course you will be able to handle the basic everyday and social language to communicate with Italian people.

Course aim

To be introduced to Italian language and culture. To learn the basic language in order to communicate simply with Italian people in everyday, social and travelling contexts.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • New students are welcome to join the course. It will be helpful if you are already able to greet people and introduce yourself.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Introduce myself and share some personal details with other people.
  • Find and book a hotel room; make special requests; check prices.
  • Ask about public transport and train times; check travel details and prices.
  • Demonstrate language skills when shopping for food in the market and for different items in shops.
  • Extract key information from listening materials appropriate to a beginners level.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be asked to prepare some written homework between classes in order to practise the language.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
