I will work with students to improve confidence in their ability to develop artistic skills, learning the skills and techniques by watching and following step by step demonstrations with one to one support and guidance to compose a landscape painting. You will learn how to compose a well balanced composition, understand perspective, horizon lines and vanishing points, how to create different moods effects and atmosphere. You will move on to subjects of your choice meeting your individual needs and expectations on the course. You will have fun developing your skills, gain confidence, meet new friends and create your own masterpiece.

Course aim

To provide a safe welcoming and supportive environment in which students can learn and develop their painting skills building up confidence to tackle more challenging subjects.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand and use in practice linear and aerial perspective.
  • Use oil painting mediums to to adapt consistancy and increse transparency of colour.
  • Continuing from previous work you will continue to learn and develop your individuel style and technique.
  • Use colour and under painting to create a mood and atmosphere, experiment with coloured boards to see how this changes the effect of colour and light.
  • Research the origins of one of the resources you have used.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
