Painting and Drawing for All

This friendly and relaxed class will provide the opportunity for you to develop your painting and drawing skills as well as your knowledge and appreciation of art. This course is designed for beginners or for those who want to refresh their skills. There will individual guidance from the tutor to explore drawing and painting techniques and develop your own project and interests.

Course aim

To develop painting and drawing skills and confidence, in a friendly and supportive environment, whilst extending knowledge and appreciation of art.

Who is the course for?

- No skills or experience needed - This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

What topics will this course cover

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning - You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Use pen & ink techniques Observe and mix colour Research an artist to identify techniques Identify a strength and area for improvement in work Discuss own, peers and artists' work in class

How will I know I'm making progress?

- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion - You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor - You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning - You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions - There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

- You will need to provide your own materials. A sketch book, 2b pencil (variety of grades) rubber, etc. Advice on paints will be discussed on course.

Reading and information sources

- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits
