Draw and Paint

This course will take students through a variety of exercises in drawing with pencils and drawing pens in the first section. Then students will explore tonal painting using ink. The final section will allow students to experiment and learn about colour through acrylic paints. This course is designed to encourage and inspire students to find their own inner artist.

Course aim

The course is designed for students to learn about drawing and painting in a relaxed and fun environment with the view to inspire and use the skills for pleasure.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use pencils effectively to produce a drawing
  • Use drawing pens effectively to produce a drawing
  • Use ink effectively to produce a tonal painting
  • Demonstrate the effective use of a variety of painting tools
  • Use acrylic paints to produce a painting

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to provide your own equipment, details will be given out at the first class. Please bring pencils , a biro black pen and sketch book (no smaller than A4) to the first class

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
