Exploring the Development of Genres: Portrait, Landscape, Still-Life

Ref: C3670795

The sessions on this course are held fortnightly. This course will explore the development of some of the main Genres in Art - still-life, nudes, portraiture, landscapes - & their development over a wide time period from the Renaissance to the 20th century. As well as comparing & contrasting works to the styles of different periods of Art chronologically, examples will be related to the socio-historical context in which they were produced - particularly regarding the reception of works within different periods & circumstances (e.g. nudes). The different reasons for the production of the paintings within different periods will be taken into account. Fully illustrated with discussion.
