This course will explore the following questions to help us improve our health and wellbeing: How can healthy food improve our mood and energy levels? How does stress impact our health and wellbeing and what can we do to live a life where we're not overloaded by stress? How does social contact bring better states of health and wellbeing? What roles do exercise and nature play in a healthy lifestyle?

Course aim

This course will explore what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle. Does it need to be something boring and tedious or can lifestyle changes be enjoyable, bringing more us more energy, fun and creativity?

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify areas of life that are particularly causing stress.
  • Identify a change to lifestyle that could be made in the areas of stress/diet/exercise/social contact.
  • Show knowledge of how stress, diet and exercise level all impact on health.
  • Identify between 5 and 10 foods that help to maintain optimum health.
  • Use "Next Achievable Steps" to put desired changes into practice.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to do activities in your own time that will help you consider and experiment with ways to live a healthy lifestyle.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Please bring a notebook and pen

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
