Join us for a journey of discovery into the lesser known figures in modern religious history. People of Faith, Pacifists, Risk-takers, and Heroes. What makes one person risk their life and livelihood to save another? Who are these lesser known change-makers? And what was their driving force and inspiration? "If you see a man drowning, you must try to save him, even if you cannot swim". An uplifting celebration of the best of humanity against the backdrop of moral evil.

Course aim

Join us for a journey of discovery into the lesser known figures in religious history. What makes one person risk their life and livelihood to save another? Who are these lesser known change-makers and what was their driving force and inspiration?

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Will have knowledge of at least three inspirational people of faith throughout recent history
  • Will have reflected on the backgrounds and deeds of these people and considered where their motivations came from
  • Will know more about different religions through the study of these inspirational people of faith
  • Will reflect on humanity and our own personal knowledge/experience of people who risk their lives/livelihoods for the benefit of strangers/others.
  • Will reflect upon the ethics of morality; does it come from faith, religious doctrine, or humanity?

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
