This is a short course taking place at Dursley /Cam Community Centre for the locals to be briefly deaf aware and to learn some signs. This will lead to a longer course if the interest is there to learn more and to hold a longer conversation in sign language.

Course aim

This is a short course to learn to be a little more deaf aware and to learn some signs and by the end of this course, to be able to have a basic conversation in sign language

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for students who attend a specific centre only. For more information please call 0300 303 3464
  • This is taking place in the community centre at Dursley/Cam so may apply to delegates from the area.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To be little deaf aware
  • To learn fingerspelling
  • To learn some signs

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • In this short course there will be time to put the signs into practice.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • The tutor will check on the signs and help. Also there will be a couple of practice sessions putting signing into use.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • This is a taster course If the delegates are interested and want to learn more then there is a chance to learn more with a follow on course.
