This course will be a fun and creative further exploration into the wonderful world of words and stories. The course will look at stories and pictures as a basis for encouraging students to improve their basic reading and writing skills and use their creativity. Each student will work at his or her own pace whilst still being challenged appropriately.
Course aim
To engage students with literacy at an appropriate level. To explore further words and stories. To practise further literacy skills such as letter formation, spelling and punctuation.

- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Enjoy reading stories and poems
- Discuss plot, character and themes
- Use my voice for emphasis, recognising punctuation and different voices
- Engage in creative learning activities around the subject
- Recognise some basic spelling patterns
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
What else do I need to know?
- All materials will be provided
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
