Complementary Therapy

This ten week course will be delivered at the Carlton Centre in a relaxed and open environment for 2 hours per week on a Thursday afternoon from 2:15 – 4:15. Open to complete beginners or those with prior experience. Each week we will cover a different essential oil, its properties and how to use for certain conditions such as stress and tension. The workshop will also touch on Indian head massage, crystal therapy, meditation and positive visualisation. A practical session will follow and cover how to massage the hands, face, shoulders and feet. Students will benefit from working with each other however an option to work alone is offered. The course is designed to encourage, motivate, support and educate individuals to embrace aromatherapy crystal therapy and share experiences on how they cope with specific problems around mental health and stress.

Course aim

Gain an insight in to how complementary therapy will help with stress and anxiety with easy to access techniques you can use at home.

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe the two therapeutic properties of your favourite essential oil or crystal
  • Describe one contra- indications that my prevent or restrict usage of essential oil or crystal
  • Describe two types of aftercare advice for either aromatherapy or crystal therapy
  • Demonstrate safe working practice

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be given the option for home study, please ask your tutor if intersted. This is not mandatory.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • Feedback as and when

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • Comfortable clothing would be idea

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
