Writing can help us to make sense of our lives and of our selves. This course will allow participants to extend their work with poetry and prose for self exploration or to engage with it for the first time. It will also be suitable for those who want to stretch their writing muscles and generate personal material for crafting into memoir. 

Course aim

This course will provide participants with an opportunity to explore their memories and experiences through writing, with a series of weekly prompts and activities.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop your confidence as a writer.
  • Generate prose and/or poetry from memories and personal experiences.
  • Use writing for further personal development and self understanding.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of life-writing and memoir.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • notebook and pen
