Permaculture is a natural design science mimicking the patterns of nature. Through observation of these patterns we can learn how they can be applied in various situations in our lives whether it is in the garden or socially. This one day, intensive, course will cover permacultures ethical approach and innovative way of thinking, and how it differs from other methods of growing.

Course aim

To give learners a brief overview of permaculture, what it is, how it can be and is used in various situations and how it can be applied in your own life.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for anyone wanting to learn about permaculture or as a refresher for those who have a basic knowledge of it.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss what permaculture is.
  • Demonstrate a technique used in growing
  • Discuss how permaculture differs from other methods of growing and farming

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be encouraged to practice some of the techniques discussed, at home

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • Learning will be assessed through group interaction and learner feedback

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Please wear or bring, suitable clothing in case of wet or cold weather.
