Intermediate computers

Based on the ICT Level 1/2 syllabus, this course aims to develop your computer skills as well as the ability to take a problem, think of a solution and tackle it with a computer. Aimed at those who want to develop work based skills, or enhance existing skills if you are job seeking, or maybe you just want to stretch yourself to keep that grey matter going. Delving deeper into word-processing and spreadsheet skills, we also introduce a little more on the use of databases and presenting information with presentation software.

Course aim

This course is to develop more complex computer and problem solving skills to extend your knowledge and ability to use the computer with your own independent skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • You will need to talk to a member of staff and do a short activity to make sure the course is right for you. For more information and to book an appointment please call 0300 303 3464
  • You will need to have a chat to a member of staff to check your current skills against a simple check list.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create a spreadsheet to give a solution to a practical problem
  • Present information in a word processing document with information taken from other software
  • Select data from a list and produce a summarised set of data from this.
  • Present information in a presentation package with information taken from other software
  • Create and reply to emails

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
