Painting and Drawing and other media is designed to offer students an opportunity to develop existing art and craft skills using a range of media and techniques in a supportive and welcoming environment in which they are encouraged to contribute ideas and share developing skills. Learners will be able to explore different drawing materials such as pencil, charcoal, pastels pen and ink and be introduced to a variety of techniques for using them. Painting projects will be centred around the mediums of acrylic and watercolour paints and will encourage learners to acquire skills in colour mixing and paint application using a variety of tools such as different types of brushes and a range of palette knives. The course will also offer an opportunity to explore other media including glass, ceramic painting, 3d work using clay/modroc and painting onto fabric.

To give students an opportunity to extend their drawing and painting skills and explore a variety of other media in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a range of drawing techniques and materials.
  • Know how to mix and use a variety of techniques with acrylic and watercolour paints.
  • Have produced a minimum of two completed paintings.
  • Have produced one piece of 3d work or glass/textile work.
  • Have evaluated their own work and identified particular interests.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A learner journal will help students to reflect on their learning with written feedback provided by tutor.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
