This course explores some of the physical and psychological causes of stress and how it impacts on lives. It outlines how stress can lead us into traps of unhelpful thinking and provide new ways of managing stress, both through preventative strategies and techniques to reduce stress in the moment.

Course aim

This course looks at what are the causes of stress and how it impacts on your life. You will discover ways to relax, unwind and breathe using techniques including anchoring, meditation and visualisation.

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List some of the things that can cause stress
  • Explain some of the consequences of stress
  • Discuss current strategies for managing stress
  • Demonstrate the use of different relaxation techniques

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

  • Nothing else is needed
