Theatre Skills - Autumn term

The course is for adults with learning disabilities of all skills and abilities .Students with additional needs eg Epilepsy are welcome if they have a support worker with them . The course aims to cover all aspects of creating theatre . Students will have opportunities to explore their own lives and experiences . Drama is an excellent way for students to gain confidence improve their social skills and work as a team . As well as working towards creating an original piece of theatre there will be workshops on different aspects of Theatre Craft like Vocalisation Movement Motivation .

Course aim

For students to be involved in creating an original piece of drama and to be involved in all aspects of this .

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • For adults with learning disabilities of varying skills and abilities

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Be ready to show our work .
  • Understand why teamwork is important for Drama .
  • Lead the rest of the group in either a warm up or game .
  • Share my own experiences in creating a piece of drama
  • Gain an understanding of what mechanisation means for ourselves and wider society

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • Feedback before after and during sessions working to course and individual aims

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • For some students volunteering would be problematic it is hoped students can gain confidence to be more active in planning their own support .
