Relaxation and Complementary Therapy

This seven week course covers a different area each week and how acupressure points may be used to improve health and well being. Students can expect to work on each other or you can apply all areas of practice on yourself. Depending on the group expectation, prior knowledge and needs it is likely that aromatherapy, massage techniques and visualisation will also be an integral part of this course. This course hopes to motivate, support and educate individuals to explore their personal health and well being and empower them to draw on self help techniques to make positive change.

Course aim

To create a safe and calm environment for individuals to explore a range of stress busting techniques and share expereinces.

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate acupressure points to the face
  • Demonstrate pressure points to the ears
  • Demonstrate self acupressure points to the hands
  • Describe two benefits of acupressure
  • Describe one benefit of Hopi ear candle

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Tutor and peer feedback will be given throughout this partly theoretical and practical course

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Comfortable clothing
