Ref: C3528767

This lively, fast paced session will examine how retailing evolved from medieval markets through the centuries to the modern day. It will examine how retailers adapted to the increasing demands from customers for an ever widening range of products as they became available or to a new fashion trend that had to be accommodated. The session will explain how retailers responded to life changing innovations such as window glass, electric light, the employment of women and the demands of workers for better conditions. In conclusion, if you have an interest in the everyday lives of ordinary people and in shopping this course will fascinate you.
