ESOL pre-entry

The course will cover listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar. The class will include pair, group and individual work and will include a variety of topics to help students in their everyday lives and improve their ability to function independently in the UK. Students will be expected to come to every session, bring pens and paper, and do regular homework.

Course aim

This course is designed to help people begin to develop their English language.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • You will need an initial assessment to join the course. This is important to find the right class for you. For more information and to book an appointment please call (0117)9166500 email or come in and see us.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Improve basic reading and writing.
  • Improve spoken english.
  • use some new study skills to learn better in the classroom and at home

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a pen, a pencil and paper to the class as well as a folder to keep any worksheets in
